World of Printmaking is a passion project created by Lauren Alexander, and it's still in its early stages. Lauren holds a printmaking degree with a focus on lithography and woodcut, and works as a web developer. World of Printmaking sits at the intersection of those two skill sets: a printmaker's understanding of the craft, paired with the ability to actually build the resource that craft deserves.

Why we started this

Printmaking spans thousands of years, countless cultures, and a large range of processes, but good information about it is scattered.

Our mission is to demystify the processes, honor the history, and make printmaking knowledge accessible to everyone. World of Printmaking exists to bring it all together in one place, organized in a way that makes sense.

What you will find here

This project is intentionally broad and inclusive. We cover everything from kid-friendly printing activities to fine art techniques.

We explore the full landscape of printmaking: relief, intaglio, planographic, stencil, and digital processes, along with the history behind them, the supplies used to practice them, and a glossary to help with the terminology along the way.

Whether you are trying to understand the difference between a linocut and a woodcut or looking for a deeper technical breakdown of aquatint, the goal is the same: clear, accurate information that respects both where you are starting from and how far you want to go.
